We form lasting relationships with our clients, supporting them over years, through many roles, career highs and lows. At Apriori, it's never “just business”.

Joanne Steiner, founding partner

Joanne founded Apriori in 2000 with the aim to help clients become effective leaders who build productive, engaged teams. Before Apriori, she held executive roles within Canon USA and the American Management Association, leading the development of custom learning solutions, facilitating transformation initiatives, and designing high-engagement organizations.

Joanne is a sought-after advisor, who is frequently tapped to help groups tackle challenging issues, navigate conflict, and steer their energy toward a shared aim. She has an established reputation for being a skilled moderator who listens deeply and distils complexity into clarity. She has first-hand experience with the challenges leaders face when building teams and relationships that yield results. She combines this with insights from the latest research in behavioural psychology and the field of social cognitive affective neuroscience.

Joanne holds a master’s degree in Consulting & Coaching for Change from the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and HEC Paris, as well as bachelor’s degrees in Business Management and Marketing from Rutgers University in the US.

Philip Steiner, Managing Partner

Philipp is a seasoned executive and strategic advisor who, before joining Apriori in 2015, held senior leadership roles in the US, Switzerland, Germany, and France. He advises executive and C-suite clients in highly regulated, policy-driven environments, bringing analytical depth to complex topics.

As CEO of Spitex Bern, he guided the successful transformation of the 500-employee healthcare non-profit following significant cuts in public funding. In parallel, he led the creation of a for-profit entity to deliver non-medical services and served as its Board president. His CEO tenure, 13 years with Novartis, decade of Board experience, and contribution as an elected public servant enables Philipp to navigate a range of organisational challenges with credibility and empathy. He is passionate about the role of business in environmental sustainability and leads Apriori’s effort to guide clients on this topic.

Philip holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland and studied at Harvard University as a visiting graduate student. He has completed post-graduate studies in the neuroscience of leadership and health economics.

AMY LAKUSIEWICZ, practice leader, coaching & performance development

Amy leads Apriori’s coaching and performance development practice. The organisations and individuals who work with her are creating better learning experiences, increasing knowledge transfer, and rethinking their approach to leadership development. Clients benefit from Amy’s experience working in technically complex environments, as well as from her knowledge of human performance and adult learning.

With more than 20 years of experience in sales, management, training, and coaching, clients turn to Amy to help them simplify challenging topics, curate innovative learning experiences, enhance critical thinking in teams, and coach the leaders who support them. Clients value her ability to ask thoughtful questions and listen deeply to spark insights with transformational potential.

Based in New York City, Amy holds a master’s degree in Adult Learning and Organizational Leadership from Columbia University and is a certified Columbia Executive Coach, EMCC Team Coach, instructional designer, and synchronous facilitator. She applies this expertise to ensuring that Apriori’s coaching offerings adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards while continuing to innovate in tools and approaches.

REINHARD JURASCHEK, PhD, senior advisor & strategist

Reinhard is a results-driven R&D executive with 25+ years of diverse global experience in the consumer and medical device space. He advises leaders on strategy and how they can build high-performing teams that blend scientific expertise with entrepreneurial savvy.

While leading several global turnarounds for Proctor & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson, Reinhard deftly integrated matrixed functions to deliver market-relevant product innovation by defining and executing pipeline strategies in a fast-paced, high-growth business environment.

Reinhard is motivated by a deep commitment to positively impact people’s lives. Be it as a scientist, inventor and business leader or as coach and mentor, he maintains that we are duty-bound to apply our abilities to the enrichment of others and the betterment of the world around us. To that end, Reinhard has been proudly volunteering for missions to deliver cleft lip and palate surgery in the Guatemalan highlands for many years.

Reinhard holds a master’s degree in chemistry and a PhD in physics from the University of Bonn, and recently completed his credentialing with “Coaching for Performance”.

ALEXIS BALIMANN, RESEARCH & PROJECTS MANAGER

Alexis joined Apriori in 2023 to support client engagements as a researcher and projects manager, as well as inform Apriori’s efforts in human systems sustainability. Alexis holds a trilingual Bachelor’s degree in business administration and is currently a Master’s candidate in Sustainable Development at the University of Basel. He is a member of Young Greens Basel and serves as Swiss Climate Youth Delegate from the Swiss Federal Office of the Environment. His intimate grasp of the role of policy in environmental advocacy efforts has enabled him to engage diverse stakeholders and represent his cohort in high-level fora such as COP28 and OECD.

Prior to joining Apriori, Alexis was the co-founder of a green start-up to bring fresh, locally grown produce to his college campus. He has a great passion for social entrepreneurship, sustainable food systems, circular economy, and biomimetics. His daily motivation is to educate people about sustainable development issues, connecting the dots between social, economic, and ecological knowledge to drive awareness and lead with hope.

In addition to his tireless commitment to the environment, in his free time, Alexis enjoys playing drums and piano and DJ’ing in alternative electronic music. He balances his passion for gastronomy and a love for tea with an ample dose of sports, particularly hiking and skiing in the Swiss mountains.
